VERTICAL WILDLIFE – COVER DREAMS!
Our Guest Judge joinig us for this competition is Charlie Borland of Pro Nature Photographer
Every photographer dreams of having their work published on a cover. The fact is that the vast majority of photos taken are horizontal, photographers simply do not shoot enough verticals. Let’s face it, cameras are designed to ergonomically function shooting horizontally. As a result, photo editors have a difficult time finding cover quality vertical images. We have been told, more than once, that more than 40,000 images are considered for an educational textbook cover. Photographers should also consider that covers and full page reproduction sizes pay considerably more than ¼ or ½ page images. Keep in mind that cover images should always have some negative space on the top for a magazine masthead. Your challenge should always be to find the vertical composition of a subject before you ever turn away and mentally call the shoot finished.
Our Photo Editors and Art Directors want to see your best VERTICAL wildlife images.
