All international artists, professional and amateur, will be considered.

Those accepted artists will be asked to be a part of a collective show in the future months. The artists will be asked if they wish to submit their artwork for the show, which is not a requirement to being a part of this show.

Eyephoneography #3 will have the same format of the previous two editions, which proved to be perfect to offer an overview of various mobile photography trends while offering the right amount of room to each photographer to present his/her vision and promote visibility of the photographers in media and promotional efforts.

Some of the eyephoneography #3 photos will also be included in the ongoing Mobile eyephoneography exhibit that is likely to continue touring after the final provisional stop in Seville in January 2013. There will also be a catalog accompanying eyephoneography #3.

The goal is not to find single nice shots. So we encourage you not to simply submit your five nicest/most-liked any-style photos. You will need to submit five of your photos shot and edited on a smartphone.

In strict observance of February – the year’s most emotionally conflicted month – we’ll be kicking things off with a two-week show focusing on the concept of Love before flipping the gallery over to another two-week show, aptly dedicated to the art of pure, unadulterated Hate.

Photographers are welcome to submit individual images or image series exploring issues related to Love, Hate, and the rugged terrain between them – as well as an artist statement about the work (if applicable).

Each submitted image will be automatically considered for both exhibition segments and may be chosen for inclusion in either (or both) shows.

Exhibition prints of the selected work will be produced in partnership with Conveyor Print Space at our expense. Participating artists are welcome to provide match-prints.

The exhibitions will take place at United Photo Industries HQ (111 Front Street, Suite 204 | DUMBO, Brooklyn) – from February 2 to February 28.

There is a limit of 5 photos per user for this contest.

She will also choose an additional thirty-five photos for the gallery’s “On-Line Annex.” All selected work will be included in a full-color exhibition catalog available for purchase. To help artists defray costs, PhotoPlace Gallery offers to mat and frame work selected for exhibition free of charge, providing artists print their images to our pre-cut mat and frame sizes. Submission fee: $25 for five photos, $6 each additional photo.

This international exhibition is the perfect platform to enter the global sphere for any young and inspired photographer. We provide the opportunity in the form of a competition to absolutely anybody who wants a chance to get their work out there. From the most informal instances all the way to an internationally organized event; this prospect doesn’t come by every day.

POST: Photography on Street & Travel begins with a competition. This competition is open to photographers across the world, and allows for up to 3 entries per person. We don’t discriminate between choice of camera, but would prefer that you remain true to the original thought/image and refrain from editing too much.

POST will be held every 6 months, starting with a 50 photographer exhibition in Singapore. Since we are primarily youth powered; the panel of judges who will curate the exhibition will be young as well- but no doubt of incredible skill. Emaho has organized events of its own in the past, and has been associated with a number of others, so is well aware of how to ensure the success of this enterprise.

Conceptual: Images which represent a concept or idea. Your images should attempt to convey a message. Usually this message is conveyed through some abstract symbolism which can be interpreted by the viewer.

These two masters enriched the history of photography by being some of the first to experiment with new technologies in a relatively new art medium. They were also traditionalists and truly embraced manual and old photography processes. The hundred and fifty photographers from Steichen’s world is millions today, and finding “as perfect a kind of photograph as was ever made” is no longer as simple. Digital cameras and editing software have transformed the medium and opened up whole new worlds for the 21st century photographer. We have dozens of “aps” that help us tweak a digital image to “perfection” in minutes. A vast repertoire of image resources we look to for inspiration and meaning still brings us to the same point of reflection as photographers of the early 20th century: what is the art of photography?

Black and white photography, a genre that many would claim made them fall in love with image-making in the first place, has remained completely relevant and contemporary despite it’s ancient roots. It is timeless, sometimes soft, sometimes dramatic and brings new perspective to images and image making. Whether you are a darkroom purist or a Photoshop craftperson, show us your love for hue-less images. We want to see YOUR best black and white or alternative process images for an exhibit that will pay tribute to the origins of photography and praise it’s development.

Juror: Rafal Maleszyk

Growing up in southern Poland, Maleszyk spent his childhood and early years in post-communist Poland. He first started exploring photography using a 35mm Kiev on his fourteenth birthday, and learnt how to develop black and white prints in the dark room set up by his father in the family kitchen.

Maleszyk’s photography is rooted in his interest in natural landscapes. For him, photography is the ultimate artistic form that captures one’s encounter or oneness with nature. His style focuses on simplifying and expressing with intimacy the perspectives in nature. His training in fine art has helped him with the craft of composition and experimentation.

In 2009, he moved to the Oahu island of Hawaii, where he now works as a professional fine art black and white landscape photographer, specializing in large format prints series using a digital medium format Hasselblad camera. To date, his photographic portfolio covers landscapes from many countries including Poland, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and El Salvador.

Maleszyk has received numerous awards for his work and we are very happy to have him juror our first black and white photography exhibition at the Darkroom Gallery.

Submissions received by December 31, 2011 11:59pm EST will be considered for the $1,000 Early Entry Award in addition to the Grand Prize and Category Awards.

Year in Review is an international open call for Painting, Sculpture & Installation, Photography, Design & Illustration, Motion & Sound, and more, with a mission to present a range of technique, style and narrative that captures the best emerging artists of the year. Our goal is simple – to find amazing talents and expose them to the world in the most potent way possible.

Jurors:
Executive directors, editors and curators have been selected from esteemed publications and institutions ranging from The Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney and New York Photo Festival to ArtStars*, Printed Matter Inc. and Independent Curators International to act as the Jury Panel for Year in Review.

Mary Ellen Mark is an American photographer known for her photojournalism, portraiture, and advertising photography. She has had 16 collections of her work published and has been exhibited at galleries and museums worldwide. She is a contributing photographer to The New Yorker and has published photo-essays and portraits in such publications as LIFE, The New York Times Magazine, Rolling
Stone, and Vanity Fair.
Ms Mark was presented with the Cornell Capa Award by the International Center of Photography in 2001. Among her other achievements are the Infinity Award for Journalism, an Erna & Victor Hasselblad Foundation Grant, a Walter Annenberg Grant, the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, the Matrix Award for outstanding woman in the field of film/photography, and the Dr. Erich Salomon Award for outstanding merits in the field of journalistic photography.

For its 2011 photography competition, Carl Zeiss is looking for that moment in which you do not see a subject, but a story. “We’re looking for images of that very special moment,” says Martin Dominicus, Head of Marketing for the Carl Zeiss Camera Lens Division. “Every life, every situation and every place is full of stories that take place in a split second. The ability to capture that in such a way that you recognize the story behind it — this is, and has always been, the high art of photography.

The pictures can be about anything. They can show people telling a story through their facial expressions or charm. They can depict a story in nature, whether shown through the sun, water, mist or frost. In exploring the theme, photographers can go to the limits of their imagination. There are also no rules in terms of style. The images can show bizarre, mysterious, funny or romantic situations. Co-Founder Jim Mueller stated, “We have intentionally avoided any categorization of either photographers or their work in setting forth the criteria for this competitive.” PhotoSpiva welcomes any photographic process as long as it is original artwork and has not been previously exhibited at Spiva Center for the Arts. This philosophy has created an unbiased forum for exhibiting and educating photographers. The PhotoSpiva prospectus, promotional materials and exhibition brochures are distributed to professional photographers, emerging artists, educators, students, and amateur photography enthusiasts throughout the United States.

PhotoSpiva 2012 will be juried by Andrew L. Moore.

PhotoSpiva 2012 is presented with financial assistance from the Friends of St. Avips, Joplin Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.

The haunting and ethereal beauty of snow and ice is a rite of passage and a grand artistic test for photographers. It challenges their skill in judging exposure and contrast, and it tests their prowess in printing a palette of gleaming whites that dazzles the senses. Those who dare to meet the challenges of the harsh winter elements can be rewarded with one-of-a-kind photographs that are unique and breathlessly beautiful.

So put your snow boots on, grab your St. Bernard and damn the icebergs, full steam ahead! This month at 1650, you are King of Cold as we gather photos for SNOW & ICE: Winter Photography.

Last year over 200 entries were received from across the world, with New Zealand’s Scott Barbour emerging as the eventual winner. Barbour’s arresting photograph depicted James Anderson and the rest of the England team celebrating the wicket of Brad Haddin during the Adelaide Ashes Test in a perfect ‘v’ formation.

Other entries focused on different aspects of the game, with examples ranging from Indian photographer Supriya Biswas’s image of children playing cricket in Kolkata, to Paul Kane’s striking snapshot of young cricketers playing on a beach as the sun sets on the horizon.

In 2011 the winning images will be chosen by a panel of independent expert judges appointed by Wisden and MCC, and headed by the former Chief Sports Photographer for The Sunday Times, Chris Smith. The judges will draw up a shortlist of 11 entries, from which a winner and two runners-up will be selected. All of the shortlisted photographs will be exhibited at Lord’s throughout next year, and the top three will feature in the colour section of Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack 2012.

The competition is open to all photographers – amateur and professional – from across the world, and the only stipulations are that entries must have been taken during 2011 and in some respect have a cricket theme.

Wisden and MCC plan to run this annual competition in perpetuity, so all entrants can take pleasure from knowing that their efforts will contribute to an ever-growing Cricket Photograph of the Year archive which, when reviewed in the long term, will document the ever changing face of cricket.

Editor of Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, Lawrence Booth, said: “We’re delighted to be able to continue our relationship with MCC in search of the world’s best cricket photographs. The standard of entries in the first year of the competition was breathtaking, and we’re looking forward to more of the same from the 2011 batch.”

Elizabeth’s work has been featured in Zoom, Camera Arts, Black and White Magazine, Silvershotz, Photo District News, Collectors Photography and Progresso Fotografico, among others. Commercial clients including Life Magazine, Gossard Lingerie, Coty Perfume, Michael Good Design, Sea Air Holidays and ongoing campaigns for The Ladies Professional Golf Association and Nancy Lopez Golf. She is exhibited, collected and published internationally and recently published her first monograph “Poetic Grace: Elizabeth Opalenik Photographs 1979-2007″.

She uses the Mordançage darkroom process, hand painting, and contemporary digital imaging in mix, utilizing their combined boundless creative possibilities. Between imagination and dreams, she believes all great photographs are an extension of the photographer – in essence, self-portraits. Her darkroom skills, photo therapeutic approach, and the inspiration from her work, make her a popular facilitator. She conducts photography workshops internationally, in partnership with the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, the Maine Media Workshops, the British Guild of Portrait Photographers, National Geographic Expeditions, The Rencontres d’Arles, and others.

We offer free matting and framing of accepted entries for the duration of each of our exhibition, subject to standard sizes. Photographers set their own prices if they wish to sell their work and retain all rights to their photographs.

As Mary Ellen wrote in her statement after jurying the first edition of this award, we will like to see, in a time when we’re inundated with imagery and media that is commercially-driven, images representing purity in photography that is inspiring and hopeful.

Amber Terranova is the photo editor for Photo District News. She worked previously for New York magazine and Outside. She holds a BFA in photography from the School of Visual Arts, Manhattan. Amber has assisted with programming at Center, a Santa Fe-based non-profit organization that supports photographers. Her taste in photography tends toward emerging and established artists with strong personal projects, surprising content and evidence of political or social engagement. She’s most drawn to introspective, provocative work.

Dina Bova was born in Moscow and currently lives in Israel. Her images have been awarded in Px3, Hasselbald Masters, Sony Awards, 1st edition of the JMCA, Nikon, PDN’s World in Focus, and have won 21 Gold medals in international photo-contests under FIAP/PSA patronage in USA, Austria, France, England, Croatia, Ukraine, Taiwan and Israel. Her art is a world of allegories, metaphors and multifaceted associations. She thinks that it’s not important how an artist creates his work. It can be created with any tool and any medium, but it should speak for itself and convey a very special mood. It should need no explanation, no elaboration and no apologies. It can be very aesthetic or the opposite of it. For Dina, the most important thing is freeing the imagination.

Award: The Julia Margaret Cameron Award will be given to 12 women photographers which will be invited to exhibit (and sell) their work in a very selective collective exhibition in Paris during 2013, honoring one hundredth year of the birth of Robert Capa, co-founder of Magnum Photos and famous war photojournalist. WPGA will take care of the framing and matting, as well as all gallery expenses. Exhibitors will receive 40% of the sales, 20% will be reserved for the gallery/organizers, and 40% will be donated to a charitable organization selected by the awardees.A catalog will be printed, and all 12 awardees will receive one free copy.

Exposure 2011 is an international competition celebrating the power of the image. Open to photographers of all backgrounds who speak in the language of lenses and aperture, the third annual EXPOSURE competition will award $18,500 in cash grants, an exhibition and reception in NYC’s Aperture Foundation, and a projection series of the selected photographer’s images all across New York City.
