Students may submit photos in any of our five categories. Five category winners and one Grand Prize winner will be selected.

Entrants can submit images in any one (1) of five (5) categories: “Fine Arts”, “Nature”, “Sports”, “Portraiture” and “Travel.

The exhibit will be shown at PICTURE Cultural Art our exhibit space on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills in Carson, California.

The exhibit is anchored by the first showing of selected paintings by You Khin, a Cambodian artist who captured the destruction of his beloved homeland at the hands of the Khmer Rouge and its eventual rebirth on his canvases.

The struggle for and celebration of Human Rights are universal knowing no geographic nor cultural boundaries.

Our exhibit; “I Have the Right” highlights the Human Rights challenges and successes by showcasing the unique interpretations of the subject by artists from different cultures. The exhibit includes art that addresses:
• The Right to be Free; from oppression, to choose my leaders, to worship openly, to live in peace and to get an education
• The Right to Express Myself; speak freely, be myself and to create
• The Right to Dream; anything is possible, war can end, hunger can be eliminated
• The Right to Love; myself and the person I choose

The PICTURE Art Foundation is requesting submissions of all media that illustrate a cultural, single or multi, interpretation of the exhibit theme.

Artwork to be included in the exhibit will be selected via jury. The jury consists of the Board Members and Executive Director of the PICTURE Art Foundation.

The jury will use the following criteria in its selection:

• Representation of Exhibit Theme
• Cultural Identification
• Quality of the artwork
• Artist Reputation and Credentials

Five pieces of art will be selected from the exhibit as the best in the following categories:

• Overall Best of Show
• Best Thematic Representation for Freedom
• Best Thematic Representation for Expression
• Best Thematic Representation for Dreaming
• Best Thematic Representation for Love

These winners will be included in the all publicity announcements for the exhibit throughout its run.

The PICTURE Art Foundation frequently acquires existing or commission artwork for its permanent collection. Preference will be given to award winners, but other pieces may be chosen for acquisition as well.

“Our aim is for Great in Britain to become a comprehensive insight into the British at work, a visual time capsule that that proves a true reflection of work practices in this country. We want to record, catalogue, archive those working heroes that make this country great. Our hope is that this will prove an inspirational, as well as an informative legacy for present and future generations.”

Entries are welcome from around the world, but all images entered must have been captured in Britain since the beginning of 2010

In addition, every submission you make (whether it a contest entry or not) will get feedback. You also get your own website. Participate in an online community designed specifically for artists and photographers. Sell your photographs and artwork commission free.

During 2011, the competition will award four(4) prizes, one every three months, over a period of one year. One finalist will be selected every three months, with a winning photograph for the quarter’s theme, and will receive a prize of $250. The grand prize winner (selected from among the 4 finalist photographs) will receive $1,000 at the end of the competition.

Often, the imagery associated with developing nations captures the misery that accompanies poverty. While it is important that these things are taken seriously and are documented, we believe that developing nations also represent tremendous opportunities for hope. The “I am an Entrepreneur” competition strives to reframe the dialogue around solutions to poverty by infusing the world’s imagination with new imagery that focuses on entrepreneurship. Our objective with this competition is to gather stunning photographs profiling individual entrepreneurs from around the globe.

The five contest categories are drawn from those subjects of special interest to the Smithsonian magazine:

Americana—Events, objects or activities connecting the American people to their history or their cultural heritage.

The Natural World—Animals, plants and landscapes; geological or climatological features; and scientific processes and endeavors.

People—Individuals from all walks of life.

Altered Images—Photographs manipulated for artistic purposes by applying digital and/or traditional special effects (i.e. colorizing, toning, collage, photo composites, HDR, etc.).

Travel—Locales, peoples or activities in the United States and abroad that convey a sense of place.

Judging will be conducted by the editors of Smithsonian. Winning photographs and selected finalists will be published in a summer 2012 issue of Smithsonian. Decisions of the judges will be final.

On a weekly basis, Smithsonian judges will post the best of the incoming entries on our web site in the Editors’ Picks section.

Five category winners will be selected, one for each category. The grand prize winner will be chosen from 50 finalists.
The 50 finalists will be notified of their status by February 28, 2012 and will appear on the web site on March 1, 2012.

Whether you are a regular APOY entrant or have never entered before, now is your chance to submit an image and see if you can win one of Canon’s flagship cameras.

We’re looking for original, imaginative and technically well-executed images that explore the theme in an exciting way. We have included a table outlining the themes for each round, plus the closing dates and the issues in which the results will appear. In the first issue and online every month we will publish a brief explaining the criteria for that round.

Our judges will narrow down the images to a shortlist of 50, and will look again at the images and award points for creativity, technical excellence and how far the image fulfils the brief. The three images with the most points will win the top three prizes for that round. The top 30 highest scoring images will be published in the magazine at the end of the month and the scores from the top 50 finalists will be added to our league table. The names of the top 50 finalists and their points scores will be posted on our website after each round. The person with the most points after the final round will be crowned Amateur Photographer of the Year 2011 and win £5,000 worth of Canon equipment.

June Assignment is Symmetry in Nature. Make sure your entry is a Canadian location. Remember your technical skills as well as your creative ones. Only one image from all submitted images will be chosen as the June assignment winner. Each person can only enter one photo. The deadline for this assignment is June 30, 2010. Anything uploaded after the deadline will be ineligible.

All Photo of the day winning images are automatically entered in the Photo of the month contest. One of our 8 categories is a Theme that is selected by the membership via our monthly survey.The theme for February is Valentine: Love, however you picture it (No digital art)

The Digital Image Cafe has quickly become a favorite place to showcase all types of digital imaging and is one of the largest online photography communities where you may enter contests, win prizes, receive critiques, make friends and grow!

Contest Categories:

Still Life/Other
Still Life is the type of work in which an arrangement of diverse inanimate objects, including items of food, plants and artifacts is depicted. This arrangement is often apparently random and is usually within a domestic setting. A “Still Life” is an arrangement of anything that does not move or is dead. Anything still living is not a “Still Life”.

Other Photography is an entry that does not appear to fit in any other category.

Scenic
Scenic Photography is Landscapes, Cityscapes, Seascapes and Skies. Broad or wide-angle views in which the main subject is the environment. Architecture is best suited, but not limited to this category.

People
People Photography contains people or a person. Can be Portraiture, Journalism or Candid, as long as there is a person or persons presented.

Digital Art
Digital Art, contemporary art in which computer technology is used in a wide variety of ways to make distinctive works. All components of the entry must be the entrants own photography and/or artwork. No base photography is required for Digital Art. Public Domain imagery is NOT allowed.

For entries in the Digital Art (DA) category, the image MUST be your own creation but may also contain elements of which you own the rights. However, these elements should not comprise the entire image. Elements that are considered Public Domain are not allowed in whole or part in any category. For filters and elements that are supplied with software, consult that software manufacturer’s End User License Agreement (EULA).

Macro/Abstract
Macro photography refers to close-up photography. Entries should be 1:1 or larger but not required. General “Close-up” photography will suit this category. Subject matter is not limited to anything in particular. You need not specifically use your Macro feature.

Abstract photography is having only basic or essential form with little or no pictorial representation or narrative content. Generally, if it is immediately recognizable as an object – it is not always considered an abstract. Abstract in this category refers to the abstract quality of the photograph composition, not the abstract quality of the subject matter.

Black & White
Black & White Photography depicts any subject matter in a grayscale, sepia or monotone manner.

Animal
Animal Photography depicts Animals and Insects.

Theme
Rules and guidelines will be outlined within a week of the 1st of every month.

Panos
Panos can be submitted in any category, provided they fit the category content.

Visitors to Premier Gallery will be able to rate entries and a monetary prize will be awarded to the winning entry.

Send it in and you could win a Courier-Post, Varsity t-shirt. Your photo might even end up in the newspaper. Don’t forget to include your name and a little bit of information about your catch.

This is one of the easiest photos contests you will ever enter.

There are 30 winners per month, there is no fee to enter, and there are several different categories – news and current events, sports, celebrities (can be local) environment (weather) – far- our and uncategorized which is just about anything cool. Must be real, no manipulated photos except for lighting, cropping, etc.

All you have to do is download the images and then open them up in Adobe Photoshop. Once in there, your task is to transform the photos into a piece of artwork. As long as you use at least one photo, what else you do is up to you!
