Every category winner will be awarded $500, a 3-month 3rd Ward work residency and inclusion in a Group Show in the 3rd Ward Gallery. One Grand Prize Winner, as determined by the public, will win a $5,000 cash grant, a 1-year 3rd Ward work residency, and inclusion in a Group Show at the 3rd Ward Gallery!

$15 per image, you can submit 7 or more images for a flat rate of $99 (maximum of 20 images). The $99 package includes a 1-year Basic 3rd Ward Membership free of charge.

The competition consists of three separate Seasons. The opening and closing dates for each Seasons are as follows:

Season 1 (3rd January 2012 – 29th February 2012), midnight GMT
Season 2 (1st March 2012 – 30th April 2012), midnight GMT
Season 3 (1st May 2012 – 30th June 2012), midnight GMT

This Competition is open to all WPO Members; Basic, Advanced & Premium. You can enter up to 5 images.

Entries must be photographic in nature and made using a camera – images created exclusively through digital means are not permitted.

The Landguard Peninsula is a great untapped resource for photographic opportunities – huge container ships, wonderful wildlife, unique objects at the Felixstowe Museum and the historic Landguard Fort.

There are three different categories.

Category 1: Man-made
Made by people rather than occurring in nature.

Category 2: Texture or Pattern
The appearance or feel of something OR a repeated decorative design. Think up close!

Category 3: Colour
A subject where the colour or colours are the predominant feature.

All photographs must have been taken on the Landguard Peninsula at Felixstowe in Suffolk.

Categories for the photographic competition :

Portrait. Best portrait photograph of a Hawk Conservancy Trust bird of prey.

Action. Best photograph of a Hawk Conservancy Trust bird of prey in a flying display.

Working relationship.Best photograph demonstrating the relationship between a member of Trust staff and a Hawk Conservancy Trust bird of prey.

Flora and fauna. Best photograph of the wildflowers, shrubs, plants, trees, insects, mammals and wildlife around the grounds of the Trust (excludes birds of prey).

In the wild. Best photograph of a wild (non-captive/non-Trust) bird of prey taken in its natural setting.

Young Photographer. Best photograph in any category, taken by an under 16 year old.

Categories are as follows:

Garden View: A landscape taken in any of the four Gardens. Note: images should not feature any identifiable people.

Plant Portrait: A plant (tree, shrub or flower) either singly or in a group of the same plant, or a close-up, taken in any of the four Gardens.

Wildlife in the Garden: Animals, insects or birds taken in any of the four Gardens.

There is no limit to entries a student can submit; however, all submissions must be made by students currently enrolled in college or high school. Online entries only.

  Budding reporters, hit the beat. Both the front lines and the backrooms count, with plenty of room for the in-between. Show us the issues, people and events in your periphery.
• STILL LIFE
  Evoke the aroma in a steaming cup of joe or send us the best from your studio lighting set-ups – if it’s stationary, it counts.
• TRAVEL / LANDSCAPE
  From your summer fling in Paris to your hiking trip on Machu Picchu, or simply hanging out in the hood or your favorite day at the beach-we want to see where you’ve been.
• FINE ART / PERSONAL WORK
  Your chance to get creative and conceptual – the offbeat, unique and beautiful work that doesn’t fit in the above categories.
• OPEN CATEGORY
  Ok, you’ve made the grade, you’ve got what it takes. Show us your shots from any of the above categories and prove it. Don’t worry, you’ll be judged against your peers.
• MULTIMEDIA / VIDEO
  Budding directors get moving and submit your best clips-the sky’s the limit – up to 20 minutes iin length or 100 MB file size.

Only images clearly reflecting the theme “Reflections” will be considered for the competition. All photos submitted that are not representative of the specific theme will be removed.

Open to anyone studying photography in the UK, The LPA Student Challenges is not just a fun competition with some amazing prizes, it could really help you on your way to becoming a professional photographer.

Challenge Number Two:

Submit an image on the theme ‘Christmas’ to be used on this year’s LPA Christmas card.

The central theme of LSP Awards is LONDON and its lively multicultural diversity. Photographs can be entered into 4 different categories: Street Life, Portrait, Landmark and Nature.

The Categories

You can submit unlimited entries, across the following four categories:

Lifestyle & Portraiture (Single & Series)
Includes portraits and lifestyle images featuring people and/or animals as the primary element.

Fashion & Beauty (Single & Series)
Includes fashion and beauty-style images.

Landscape, Interiors & Exteriors (Single & Series)
Includes landscapes, cityscapes, seascapes, interiors, exteriors and architecture, which may or may not include people, animals or objects as a secondary element.
Still Life (Singles & Series)
Includes still life and food shots where inanimate objects feature as the primary element.

Leadership is a combination of values, such as motivation, decisiveness, engagement and inspiration. But we are interested to get your perception on how it can be encapsulated in the click of a camera button.

You can win the overall prize of a Leica X1, to our minds the ultimate compact camera and the only one officially approved by Getty Images. And every month there is another separate prize from Leica.

Images must have been taken in one of cazenove+loyd’s regions of expertise, namely Central and South America, Africa and The Indian Ocean and South and South East Asia.

One portfolio entry is allowed per person per month. A portfolio consists of up to five photographs, each in JPEG format and each of 5MB or below.

The competition closes on 6 January 2012 and the winners will be selected by our expert panel of judges and have their image displayed in the windows of our shops across the UK.

A selection of winning and highly commended photos will be featured in the Independent on Sunday at the end of January 2012.

The categories

Adults: Open to amateur and professional photographers who will be 16 or over on the closing date. £10 entry fee.

Students: Open to all students aged 16 or over undertaking full or part-time courses at a UK-based college or university. You must supply the name of your college/university as part of the registration process. If selected as a winner you will be required to provide proof of your student status otherwise you will be disqualified. £5 entry fee.

Junior: You must be aged 15 or below on the closing date of Sunday 6th January 2012. You must obtain your parent’s or guardian’s permission before entering the competition as part of the registration process. £5 entry fee.

Users are encouraged to submit their best images (“User Content”) into the Contest for a chance to receive votes for the People’s Awards and to be eligible to win a CATEGORY PRIZE or the overall GRAND PRIZE.

The Essentials of Photography online tutorials consist of 6 lessons presented by Canon “influencers” on the following subject categories:

(i) Learning to see;
(ii) Light & Landscapes;
(iii) Moments in Motion;
(iv) Subject standout;
(v) Getting in close; and
(vi) Using your environment

Images should be entered into the category to which they most relate but can be entered into multiple categories.

Photography students are requested to submit your entries for the 14th annual MBIFW. The winning student will be honored at the opening press conference on March 21, 2012 as the “International Student Fashion Photographer of the Year”and the winning photos will be exhibited in the “New Stars in Fashion Installation” at the event. The judge’s decision is final.

Theme: International Style. Use your own creative juices to create a fashion shoot celebrating the international world of “style.”

In much the same way, we are looking for images that reflect your world expressed through the lens of your camera. Maybe a serene English country landscape, an active urban community, an engaging or surreal portrait, travel… Anything that inspires you in your world.

The Prize is divided into five sections: painting, photographic art, sculpture, videoart and performance. Participants can choose the theme of their artworks.

There are some very attractive Canon prizes to be won including the unique opportunity to spend three days gaining invaluable experience with three of New Zealand’s most prominent photographers.

Your submission will need to include:

* A selection of four original photographic images of professional quality created after 01/01/2011.
* Explain in 500-1000 words what your brief for your portfolio was, and what, and who inspires you as an emerging photographer.
* Confirmation of eligibility from your photography institute or current photographic employer by way of entry application form.

CATCH THE JUDGE’S EYE

Entrants will be judged on demonstration of your ability as a photographer to think laterally. Creativity, originality, print quality and technical expertise will all form part of the judging criteria.

Each week, the photographs that are judged to be technically best are shortlisted for a prize, while all entries are considered for publication in the Holiday Snaps section.

You may enter as many times as you like, but will only qualify for one prize, even if you are selected for a prize slot more than once.

June Assignment is Symmetry in Nature. Make sure your entry is a Canadian location. Remember your technical skills as well as your creative ones. Only one image from all submitted images will be chosen as the June assignment winner. Each person can only enter one photo. The deadline for this assignment is June 30, 2010. Anything uploaded after the deadline will be ineligible.
