Each month we offer fantastic prizes. This month it’s a Slingshot 200 camera bag and a Karl Taylor Masterclass Series DVD of your choice.

This month the theme is “The Human Form”.

As the summer of 2010 winds down, we thought this would be a perfect subject to show off some of your best summer photos, and since summer isn’t over yet, you’ve still got time to get some more great shots for the contest!

The contest is FREE to all. There is NO CHARGE to enter. Each person can submit up 10 photos each for consideration. We’ll be posting some of our favorite photo entries through-out September to show off some of the best photo submissions.

The winner will be selected during the first week of October, at which time we’ll announce the top ten photo submissions and… drum roll… the grand prize winner. For the Grand Prize Peter Gregg has generously agreed to donate one of his awesome A Better Bounce Cards, and Art of the Image will be adding your choice of any DSLR battery we carry to sweeten the pot!

To submit your photos, just head on over to the Days of Summer Flickr Group and submit your photos. Remember, 10 entries per person is the limit.

Category 0-8 year olds : Open to any photograph taken on Scotland’s canal network by youngsters 8 years old and below.

Category 9-17 year olds : Open to any photograph taken on Scotland’s canal network by anyone within the age group.

18 and over: This year there are 4 individual categories: Buildings & Structures, People & Places, Environment & Wildlife,  Boats & Water

New for 2010: Paddle Power
To reflect the increasing popularity of paddling on the canal network (i.e. canoeing, kayaking etc.), this category is open to any image taken on Scotland’s canals of paddling activity. The winning prize is £100 worth of vouchers for Tiso.

The overall winner will receive four nights stay in any Langham property around the world and Cathay Pacific business class return tickets for two. Each of the nine finalists will win a two-night stay in the destination where their original iconic moment was captured.

Bob van den Oord, Vice President – Sales & Marketing for Langham Hotels International said: “Every destination has icons that stand out and we want people to capture the most striking moments in an original way. This competition is designed to get everyone thinking iconic visions which will excite other people to travel to these places.”

The judging panel will consist of experts and organisers who will look at creativity, technical excellence, and the spirit of the iconic moment in relation to the destination. The top submissions with the most ‘comments or likes’ will then be judged by the panel to decide the final ranking and the eventual winner.

The judges include Leong Ka Tai, a veteran Hong Kong photographer, and photography curator Davina Lee. Leong Ka Tai’s work has been published in 22 books as well as National Geographic and Life. He is also one of the organisers of the Hong Kong Photo Festival. Davina Lee is a graduate of Sotheby’s Institute of Art and founder of Words for Pictures Limited. Her work has been published in magazines such as the Royal Photographic Society, HK Tatler and Muse.

We’re looking for two categories of photos:

1. Ocean People : people working, living, or playing on, in or around the ocean. First Nations people enjoying traditional ocean related activities

2. Ocean Ecosystems: estuaries, eel grass beds, giant kelp beds, seabirds, intertidal life, barnacles, mussels, herring spawn, starfish, any fish or mammals (especially salmon), aerial photos of the ocean, bears fishing, and any other photo that captures the ocean environment.

If you have a great picture related to the ocean we’d love to add it to our photo library for use on our website and in future publications.

You don’t need to be a professional photographer to enter the contest. Just take your camera with you on your summer adventures and send us any interesting ocean pictures.

The theme for the competition is “Animals”. These can be your own pets or wildlife. They can show any type of animal whether it be cute, serious or humourous. We are looking for engaging images that really catch the eye and imagination. We will accept manipulated images but this is certainly not a requirement. All images should have been taken in 2010 and please show date information on the image where possible
